TRAINING
Manners

Picture
Manners Courses are focused on teaching good manners and offering positive alternatives to unwanted behaviors. The manners courses are designed for learning in a group environment, which provide real life situations and distractions. Our goal is to offer you and your dog a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, easy to follow methods for in-class instruction, and personalized attention.

We offer several levels of manners training, all done with positive reinforcement. We believe our curriculum will require your dog to think and make correct choices to receive rewards and become a well mannered dog.

Manners 1. This course focuses on training manners with the use of both voice and hand signals with much information given to help understand dog behavior, leadership and management skills. It covers: sit, down, come, leave it, wait, trade, and eye contact, along with advice for chewing, jumping, pulling and nipping issues. This course is perfect for untrained dogs and puppies, dogs that have had no formal training or dogs not accustomed to positive reinforcement training.

Manners 2. This manners course builds upon the lessons learned in our Manners 1 course by having your dog hold a command for longer periods of time, at increasing distances from you, and with varied distractions created by people, dogs and toys. It also covers: front, touch, stand and back-up. Weekly, comical games reinforce all that is taught. In this course the degree of difficulty of every task taught is always adjusted to challenge each dog's individual level of performance.

Manners 3. This advanced manners course focuses on improving your dog's leash walking
skills and the heel position and develops your dog's response to manner's commands while faced with a high level of distractions and/or when your dog is at a distance from you. It also covers: real world "Leave-it/Don't Touch" with  high level distractions, increased recall reliability with complex exercises, improved manners with distance for downs/sits, improved manners for going into a down command while recalling, learning logical exercises that improve your dog's self-control, permission and name recognition. This course prepares you for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test.

AKC Canine Good Citizen. Equip your dog with the skills to act mannerly in public
places and in the presence of other dogs. It prepares you and your dog for the
AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification, which tests for accepting friendly
strangers, sitting politely for petting, walking without pulling, walking through a
crowd, sitting down and staying on command, coming when called, behaving
politely around other dogs, behaving well when faced with common distractions
and maintaining manners when left with a stranger. This course is part of required
training for Therapy and Assisted Dog work and often opens doors to your dog
staying at hotels and inns.

Walk WITH Me: Leash Skills. Do you have sore arms, shoulders or back from having your dog walk YOU down the street? Does your dog's bad habit of dragging you while on leash embarrass you? Attend this course with your dog and learn the tricks of the trade to get your dog walking at your side with no tension on your leash or your body. This course will offer tips that are specific to your dog’s needs. It will teach you and your dog to walk well TOGETHER.
